Sunday scaries and how to solve them
Sunday scaries also known as Sunday blues is this melancholic or even anxious feeling towards the end of the weekend where you would rather burry your head under your pillow and hope the weekβs chores will magically disappear.
The thought of going back to work bursts our well-being weekend bubble. Typically Sunday scaries often start towards the end of the weekend and get worse as the Sunday passes by. It can be absolutely normal to feel melancholic on Sundays from time to time - weekends are great after all and, as you know, work is work - but one can certainly strive to find a job that minimises our Sunday scaries. Quitting my job and working on my own start-up with ChangePath has reduced my regular Sunday scaries by half. However, maybe you're not ready to open Pandora's box and find a new job just yet, so I prepared a little miracle recipe for you to minimise your Sunday blues with 6 tips and tricks. Letβs start with 3 and I will give you another 3 in the next episode of ChangePath.
#1 Make Monday you well-being day
If you take charge of your Monday experience, you can avoid a stressful start to the week. Book yourself a nice lunch, a spinning class or a morale-boosting walk in the park. The flip side of anticipatory anxiety is the anticipation of an upcoming event. So, treat yourself to a good start into the new week.
#2 Talk to others about Sunday blues
Guys you are not alone! If you do not believe me believe the stats a 2023 LinkedIn survey found that 75 percent of workers experience Sunday scaries with the extent to which people experience the Sunday scaries on the rise. However, knowing that other people feel the same way can give us a lot of comfort. Even though we read every day on LinkedIn about how enthusiastic people are about their work and what their big successes are, the Sunday blues are a very common thing and there are lots of people around us who feel the same way. So, go and talk to them, especially on Mondays.
#3 Stretch out the weekend as much as possible
To forget that the weekend is over, there's nothing like stretching it out as much as possible: go to the cinema, have a picnic with your friends or family or organise a craft evening. There are plenty of options other than mulling over Monday on the sofa.
TO BE CONTINUED - stay tuned for the next three tips on Sunday scaries in two weeks - I will actually give you a tool for reducing your stress around the start into the new week.
